WATCH: At The Center ~ John Santos reflect


Bay Area percussionist John Santos reflects on all the musical collaborations, educational opportunities and memorable experiences throughout his long history with SFJAZZ. Santos wraps up his tenure as a 2013-14 Resident Artistic Director this Sunday (3/2) with his newest project Unusual StandardsFour of the Bay Area's greatest vocalists, Faye Carol, Kenny Washington, Kellye Gray and Destani Wolf, join The John Santos Sextet in Miner Auditorium at 4pm for fresh takes on well-known jazz and pop standards, with a Latin jazz twist.

WATCH: John Santos' 'Unusual Standards'


Percussionist and composer John Santos explains the concept behind Unusual Standards, his newest project, and final performance as a 2013-14 SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director. Four of the Bay Area's greatest vocalists, Faye Carol, Kenny Washington, Kellye Gray and Destani Wolf, join The John Santos Sextet at the SFJAZZ Center on Sunday, March 2nd for creative and fresh takes on well-known jazz and pop standards. Aside from that, it will be an evening of surprises, as Santos intends to tap into the improvisational talents of each individual singer.

WATCH: Marcus Shelby on his 'Harriet Tubman & The Blues' Family Matinee


Watch as Bay Area bassist, bandleader and composer Marcus Shelby walks through his musical tribute to freedom fighter, Civil War hero, and Women's Suffrage champion Harriet Tubman at the SFJAZZ Center. Shelby has extensively researched and composed music that pays homage to Tubman, inspired by her profound use of field cries, works songs, and spirituals to free herself and countless other slaves. This Saturday (2/8), SFJAZZ Education honors Black History Month with a special Family Matinee presentation of Harriet Tubman & The Blues with Marcus Shelby Quintet and legendary vocalist Faye Carol. The concert will be followed by a Family Workshop in Joe Henderson Lab.
