News+Happenings: June 28, 2012


 Highlights include: 

  • In support of Trayvon Martin and his family, the SFJAZZ Collective took to the stage at Yoshi's on April 1st in black glasses & hoodies. Predicta Media was on hand to capture footage of their performance of Stevie Wonder's "Race Babbling"
  • The Annual DownBeat Magazine Critics Poll went up this week -  we were happy to see some familiar faces from shows gone by!
  • English singer-songwriter Joe Jackson resurfaced with a Duke Ellington tribute album, featuring some unexpected guests
  • Jason Moran continues to receive high praise as the "new master" of the jazz world - this time it's coming from The New Yorker
  • A Blog Supreme profiles "5 Great Works of Modern Chamber Jazz," includes Wayne Shorter, Brad Mehldau & Dave Douglas
  • The New York Times had a great write-up of Tuesday's Marc Ribot trio show at the Village Vanguard
