Jason Moran: the story behind 'Cane'


Jason Moran tells the story behind his composition Cane, commissioned and recorded by Imani Winds. The renowned woodwind quintet joins Moran this Thursday (June 5th) for his final week as a 2013-14 Resident Artistic Director at the SFJAZZ Center, performing Cane, Moran's new sextet piece Jump Cut Rose (which Moran plays on!) and a selection from Igor Stavinsky's The Rite Of Spring.

Moran's residency also features a duet with saxophonist Charles Lloyd, and two nights of Jazz + Skateboarding! Check it out online.

WATCH: Ben Gore x Jason Moran - San Francisco Skateboarding by Night



"Fruits of the labor"—look what Jason Moran sent to us this morning: a fresh skate video from Ben Gore, filmed exclusively at night in San Francisco, beautifully complemented by Moran's solo piano piece "For Coleman Hawkins." We can't wait for Round 2 in June! Skateboarding & Jazz returns to the SFJAZZ Center 6/7-8, part of Moran's final week as a 2013-14 SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director.

NEW VIDEO: Jason Moran & The Bandwagon w/ SF Skaters


Check out this new, awesome video of Jason Moran & The Bandwagon with guitarist Jeff Parker and a crew San Francisco's top skateboarders, riding a mid-sized half-pipe situated in front of the stage at the SFJAZZ Center! Although produced for the upcoming Jason Moran documentary "Grammar," the beautifully edited footage is also a teaser, as Moran and Co. gear up for a second outing of Jazz & Skateboarding on June 7-8, 2014 (back by popular demand!).

SFJAZZ Center One-Year Anniversary, Pt.2


After a clinic with the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars earlier this week, Resident Artistic Director Bill Frisell reflected, "So much has happened in a year. It seems impossible. I said, 'Wait, that's two years!' It just seems like an incredible bunch of stuff happened." In recognition of the SFJAZZ Center's One-Year Anniversary, SFJAZZ Members get 25% off all of Bill Frisell's shows this weekend, starting with his debut of the Big Sur Quintet tonight!
