March 2012 SFJAZZ Hotplate Mix

Spring kicks into gear with Chloe Jane Scott taking on the reigning king of flute in a scorching SFJAZZ Hotplate tribute to Hubert Laws this Thursday night at Amnesia (853 Valencia Street). The evening will also include the always fascinating Front Burner multi-media session on the life and times of Hubert Laws, led by SFJAZZ Education Director Rebeca MauleĆ³n.

Much like last month, I put together an hour long Hotplate mix that features a number of Hubert Laws classic recordings both as a leader and a sideman. I also included a couple of my all-time favorite jazz flute compositions including Ju-Par Universal Orchestra's often overlooked gem "Flute Salad" and the funky classic "Harlem River Drive" by Bobbi Humphrey. Enjoy!
